This morning I had a beautiful reminder of how much I love Brighton.

Having dropped my four-year-old son at the nursery I went to Brighton Station to catch a train to London.

Walking thought the wooden beams my heel got stuck between the boards and the strap in my shoe snapped.

A very helpful guy at the shop helped me superglue it together and as I was standing in the middle of the station, barefoot, with the shoe in my hand, I heard my favourite theme from Amelie playing on the piano.

The Sound of Comptine D’un Autre Été was coming from somewhere near.

And then, there it was – an old piano standing in the middle of the station with a sign saying ‘Please play me’...

A young man was playing the piece that I have been learning for some time and playing it really well.

People rushing to work, morning smell of coffee and croissants, sun coming through the glass roof of the station – a day full of promise and the sound of a favourite tune played, made me fall in love with the place where we live all over again... I completely forgot about my shoe.

And when the music piece finished, the pianist got up and left to catch his train.

No one seemed to have noticed – busy life of the station uninterrupted, everyone carried on as normal.

Well, almost everyone – I was very touched by it. Thank you anonymous pianist for making this ordinary morning so special.
