Following a huge public online petition, many emails, speeches at council meetings and lengthy negotiations it was absolutely great to be able to visit the Brighton National Speed Trials, pictured below, on Saturday, September 6, that was admirably organised by the Brighton and Hove Motor club.
This historic event, which is part of our heritage, returned after a one-year break and was greeted by perfect weather, thousands of people from around the UK and it was good to see so many fans from Brighton and Hove who had clearly missed the excitement of seeing such a variety of cars and motorcycles in action over a standing-start sprint course.
I am sure the eating and refreshment outlets in the Madeira Drive Colonnade, as well as other local businesses, must have had a very good day and long may that continue on this excellent annual day out for people of all ages and backgrounds.
