I think the Tour of Britain cycle race, seventh stage, could be classified as a total success. Thanks to the people of Sussex and in particular Brighton and Hove.

Much of the success with thousands lining the route must go down to The Argus and local communities.

The Argus has been the font of information leading up to the event. Daily updates, supplements, information on riders, routes, times of action/appearances. Take a bow Argus.

Our community decked out part of Coldean Lane with bunting, flags and posters. Feedback from team cars, tooting horns and waving and outriders saying thank you was positive.

This city can show the world that if you have an event, Brighton and Hove is the place for it.

Yes, it is two way. You bring your event to us, we will welcome you, but also bring supporters and money. Talking to just a few people in local business, Saturday saw an increase in takings and profits. This can only be good for the city.

Time now for the City Council to hawk itself globally and get major events to our city. The Argus and local communities will ensure it is a success, no need for politics.

Once again this city has shown that with a good local newspaper and community action, we can bring much-needed business to this city.
