Whilst the arguments between motorists and cyclists continue, one thing is for sure – neither is going to go away, especially now the Greens are causing mayhem at the Vogue Gyratory to accommodate the cyclists.
Whatever side you are on, I feel that cycling safety should be looked at and brought into the 21st century in our cities.
Health and safety are in the face of every other industry and leisure pursuit, yet cycling seems to have been overlooked.
I recently saw a cyclist with a young child sitting on the back seat trying to cut across the flow of traffic with one hand on the handlebar wobbling and trying to give a signal with the other hand. How dangerous is that?
I think all bicycles in the city should be fitted with stabilisers and indicators fitted behind the saddle so the motorist knows where they are heading.
While this might make it slower for the cyclist as there is a 20mph limit, it should not be inconvenient. It would be safer for everybody.
