Re your article about the pitch problems at Hove Recreation Ground, this has always been a problem.

I first played soccer there at Goldstone Junior School in the early 60s, and again in the 70s when playing Sunday League football.

We always had to scour the goal areas before matches for flints. If the goalie finished a match without serious cuts to his legs he was lucky.

I was very surprised when the park, with its inherent dangers, was effectively taken over by a rugby club.

Flints will always rise to the surface no matter how much money is spent on trying to eliminate them. I am surprised this issue has not been raised before.
