Regarding the letter in The Argus (October 11), I hope those people apparently supporting Ben Duncan’s disparaging remarks describing our armed forces as hired killers would have been happy to have their families subjugated by the Nazis in the 1940s, if our armed forces had nobly decided that waging war against Nazi Germany (or anyone else for that matter) was unthinkable.
What such inhabitants of cloud cuckoo land seem to forget is that, to end all wars, all sides have to have the same ideals.
If one side decides it is entitled to take over the entire planet by force, or even to ‘wipe from the face of the Earth’ some tiny country it disagrees with, I’m afraid you have a war on your hands, and either you fight it or submit to slavery or annihilation.
