The exceptionally heavy rain since the beginning of October has caused many problems for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and some residents.
The resultant flooding in many parts of the city is because the road gullies (surface water drains) are no longer cleaned on an annual basis and many side roads are not swept regularly, if at all.
This is a false economy and must be reversed even in these difficult times.
These important tasks must be carried out by the council to prevent the misery and financial loss suffered by those unfortunate enough to have their properties flooded and the safety hazard caused for all road users.
