It is about time that the council took more action to deal with the problem of excess surface water on some streets after heavy rainfall (Argus 9th October 2014).
There needs to be more regular checks of drains and gulleys in those streets that are worst effected to prevent these becoming blocked.
The Council just needs to look at the records of where issues have arisen in the past 30 years or so and reschedule their programme of checks on drains and gulleys accordingly.
It is surely not difficult or expensive to examine the programme of checks to ensure that those streets that have been most badly affected over the years get more regular inspections.
Brighton and Hove City Council needs to implement a programme of inspections which takes into account local geographical factors, past problems and seasonal changes.
They should help prevent surface water problems happening rather than just wait for the effects of the next storm.
