I am appalled at my local councillor’s response to the food bank crisis (More regulations needed on food banks, The Argus).
As if having to ask for basic provisions to keep hunger at bay isn’t harsh enough for families in Brighton and Hove, they now have to suffer further humiliation at the hands of Dawn Barnett.
Come the May elections I’ll be looking for a councillor that wants to put an end to food banks – and the need for them.
I certainly won’t be voting for one who in my opinion seeks to dictate to charities how they should run their services or one whose instinct is to deny people food.
A minimum wage that matches the cost of living for working people and a well-run and comprehensive social security system for people who are unable to work is well within the means of a wealthy country like Britain. It would also render food banks obsolete.
