The City employs a chief executive and a number of local government officers to carry out policies, as directed by the elected councillors, and to run all the services as required by the city.

The chief executive, who has overall charge, is paid over £150,000 per annum and a number of her subordinates are paid over £100,000 per annum For these high salaries the city taxpayers expect these officials to run the services in a harmonious and efficient manner.

However, in my opinion it appears that these officials are unable to do so and appear to be in dispute with the workers.

We have had an ongoing dispute with the refuse collectors for well over the past year.

The pictures in the media must have stopped many tourists from coming to Brighton and lost much revenue to the city.

In addition the city appears to be plagued with travellers and the city executives appear to have no idea how to deal with them leading to huge costs to the city taxpayers.

It is no use the chief executive and her officials bleating on the radio and in the media that the council has an equal pay policy which prevents them settling the strikes.

If they believe in equal pay they should all take a huge pay cut since the average pay for clerks serving the council is probably about £30,000 per annum.

All of this points to the chief executive and it is time that the councillors replaced her.

If your readers consider it is time to replace the chief executive perhaps they can write to The Argus or their local councillor.
