It is welcome that the City Council has decided to consult about part of the City Plan though it is a pity that the Green administration decided against trying to get a good spread of opinions in the first place.

I understand that there were less than 70 responses to the original and very limited consultation about the City Plan from an adult population of around 220,000 people which is something of a scandal.

Some of the controversial aspects of that City Plan included the failure to properly consider a Park and Ride scheme to help reduce traffic congestion; the allocation of available land space for additional office developments even though our city is in urgent need of more affordable housing; and basing our seafront strategy partly on the controversial i360 tower.

Unfortunately, this council administration rejected Government funding to convert redundant offices into housing and it is policies like this that need to be addressed.

I hope that there will be lots more responses to the City Plan and that these will include the need to make more provision for low-cost housing (including shared housing and social housing) in our city.
