WHILE your December 5 edition had an excellent spread exploring the city’s challenging homelessness problems, comments from the opposition leaders in the lead article need clarification.
It seems a terrible case of amnesia has hit the opposition party leaders in relation to the council’s interim finance and resources director appointment.
It takes four months or more to appoint a permanent replacement director as candidates often have to work three months’ notice at their current jobs.
So all three party leaders supported the chief executive in appointing an interim director immediately.
We all agreed this was the best way to deliver the challenging budget (with a £26m gap), whilst leaving the permanent recruitment to the new administration after the May 2015 elections.
Each party leader appointed a councillor to the cross-party panel that unanimously agreed Ms Musson’s appointment, in the full knowledge of the costs involved.
So it really is utterly misleading for Councillor Theobald and Morgan to express shock and surprise as if they were in a Christmas pantomime.
Councillor Jason Kitcat
Leader of the council
