Having just endured almost three years of roadworks at Handcross Hill I find it inconceivable that the Highways Agency has now been subjecting the motorist to yet more roadworks on the A23 between Hickstead and Handcross, with restrictions in place overnight.

While I appreciate that improvements and repairs need to be undertaken I feel that the notification provided by the Highways Agency is totally inadequate and that their signs are either out of date or that they do not correspond to when the works are taking place.

As someone who travels regularly on the A23 after 9pm I find this incredibly frustrating and cannot believe that the Agency cannot provide sufficient information in a legible format that will enable the motorist to make alternative arrangements or allow extra time for their journey.

The diversions are usually ridiculously long and no prior knowledge of closures are visible until one reaches the closure itself.

Surely it is not too much to ask that the required information is displayed clearly for the motorist particularly when travelling northbound on the A23 at say the Welcome to Brighton pillars or near to the Pyecombe turn off.
