I WAS pleased to see Ben Leo’s article on the proposed twenty-storey skyscraper for Worthing beach.

Every feedback form to Roffeys architect’s ECE which were returned after being photocopied by us were wholly against skyscrapers on the beach.

Mr Cheal, director of Roffey, says after reading them that he has altered the landscape. No mention of the major complaint.

Secondly the major issue of traffic that he dismisses to be less than one extra vehicle movement per minute – those who use Brighton Road daily beg to differ.

He is providing 77 paid parking spaces for the Aquarena use, people will still prefer to park free on the streets much to the detriment of the residents.

Also he states the social housing flats will be cheaper than houses in New Parade, but they are only small flats not nice houses.

The next question is who will pay the maintenance fees for the social housing tenants?

I expect it will fall on the taxpayer.

He certainly made no mention of the skyscraper carbuncle but has tickled around the edges.

Mr Cheal you might have brainwashed the councillors with your eyesore building but the public are not so gullible, the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes comes to mind.

There were no new clothes and a 1960s skyscraper is no icon and never will be.
