At the request of Bob Bailey (The Argus January 10) I write to express my support for the restoration of the Lewes to Uckfield rail link.
A word of caution, however. I have written many letters over the past few years on this subject, which have been published. On each occasion I have asked for someone to indicate the precise route to be followed.
So far, no positive response and it therefore follows that the old route into Lewes is to be re-opened should this scheme proceed at some future point. I cannot believe this is a serious proposition, for the simple reason that it would entail demolishing a large part of Lewes as it stands today.
Surely someone can explain how the objective might be achieved after consideration of all the obvious difficulties that must be overcome.
No-one doubts the sincerity of all those wishing for this matter to be progressed but it would be helpful if there could be a more positive response to the requests for more detailed proposals.
