It was bad enough to read of Major Joseph Cunningham’s military record mysteriously blowing about the grounds of Hove Park last Remembrance Day, 2014.

But now, through January, appeals for information continue to appear in The Argus. The papers remain with the police.

The police and Argus deserve a big pat on the back for continuing to try to reunite these papers with the person who was passing through that park when the papers were dropped.

This record should be a treasured family heirloom, but may also have been in the hands of a researcher or someone from out of the Hove Park area who has no idea they are safely awaiting collection. Let’s hope they were not simply dumped.

From now until May, candidates seeking election will be leafleting and door-knocking to big themselves up as each vies for voter favour.

A suggestion: when the time comes to declare support for our armed forces and veterans, perhaps a little space and voice could be spared for an advertisement of the search for the person who lost Major Cunningham’s papers in Hove Park. It might help.

It might even win votes, you never know!
