Do you ever feel that you are gently but firmly being edged out and pushed off the planet?
By means of the loss of familiar landmarks that we fondly thought would always be around.
For instance, my first home in Worthing (at three years old) Corral & Co, office and house by Tarring Crossing, gone, and is now a private house.
My nursery school – a care home, was my school until the age of 15, is now a large private house.
The three main cinemas, gone, now flats, shopping area and bingo hall respectively.
The old Town Hall, relocated, is now a shopping centre. The registry office where we were married - now flats. Bentalls, where I first worked for £1. 2s. 6d a week, changed hands.
It is natural progress of course, but what else is going to disappear before I do? Gradually my past is vanishing, as if I never existed. It’s a bit scary.
One good thing though, The Argus is still going strong. Thank you team.
Joan Archer,
Rusper Road South, Tarring, Worthing
