I moved from Brighton four months ago, the Greens’ attitude to traffic (and most other things) being a part of my decision.
On Sunday at about 6.30pm I drove to Brighton for a concert.
Having just turned left behind other traffic into Viaduct Road, I decided – following a check in front and behind me – to move into the empty right hand lane.
Wow! What a surprise that was. I very nearly crashed into what I can only call a tank trap – a big black box.
My passenger was to say the least shocked at the sudden stopping of my vehicle.
I am not sure what these boxes are for.
The street lighting is not the best and these obstructions were black and not highly visible – in fact, not visible at all.
This must be a matter for the Health and Safety Executive.
You could not do this on a construction site. Why should they be allowed to do it on a public highway ?
I have found out since that this is supposed to be a traffic calming device. Why are these needed? The road is already a 20mph zone.
One hates to think how much this scheme has cost – money that should be used for social care.
