I have noticed cycle parking stands are being installed near the junction of New Church Road and Saxon Road in Hove.

I am concerned to say the least.

Safety: New Church Road has a speed limit of 30mph and the stands are off the pavement so a cyclist would have to stand in the road in order for the bike to be tied/locked up – a potential danger for the cyclist and also for motorists.

Positioning: the stands are not near shops or surgeries, Wish Park is round the corner and some 100 metres down the road, and the nearby blocks of flats have off-road parking round the back so who is going to use these stands?

Being a cycle user I am all in favour of having racks in the appropriate places, but these new ones seem to be ill-conceived.

I would be interested to hear what the department has thought of.
