In relation to your story about Mike Weatherley MP speaking in Parliament about his battle with cancer (Argus February 24) you can watch on Parliament TV archive footage.

Near the end of the day’s business, about 10.30pm, only eight people can be seen on the green benches of the House of Commons as having bothered to stay back for this.

The debate was almost non-existent. It was contemptible and disgusting to watch some 500 MPs file out at the adjournment and for almost nobody to bother to stay for the adjournment debate.

Cancer is a huge issue. His experience and thoughts on how treatment strategies could be imp-roved, helped by government, were worth exploring in a debate but perhaps the party political hacks have nothing to ask, nothing to say about how the health services work.

Just take the money and pretty much say what the whips tell them, eh.

I was appalled and disgusted at their insensitivity and ignorance, their brain-dead foolishness.

Fifty per cent of us will get cancer between now and 2020.

Why doesn’t that sober up and engage our MPs?

It has been in the media for the last week or two that cancer figures are no longer 30 per cent but knocking on for 50 per cent.
