I found questions from the floor of the recent political debate very ‘parochial’ and as such missed the opportunity to ascertain what members of the panel (with the exception of Caroline Lucas) were, regarding national long term energy needs of the nation and safeguards for future generations.
Since the last world war all political parties have been guilty of short term policies, with the exception of the Labour Government, 1947/48 introductions of a National Health and Social Security body, which two/three generations have come to possess and hold very dear for all groups within our society.
Unfortunately over the last 15 years, successive Governments have been guilty of dismantling health and social services – a short term fix approach.
My view and philosophy, which I would hope some politicians will adopt, is long term planning for a successful and balanced society, which is economically, environmentally and socially fundamental to safeguard a future for generations to come.
Perhaps some of my observations could be utilised for the next panel of potential candidates?
