So, less than 18 months after it was opened at a cost of £10 million pounds, the Adur Ferry Bridge already needs essential inspection and maintenance that will take up to four weeks (Argus, April 17th).

This sounds just like the Southwick Hill Tunnel (the one with 22 emergency telephones and numerous small tunnels leading to goodness knows where) that has to be closed for a couple of nights every month, again for ‘essential inspection and maintenance’.

I seem to remember The Argus, not so long ago, carrying a story about the Southwick Tunnel having access to a missile bunker so could it be that the engineers need to check the bridge to ensure that demolition charges installed to prevent a foreign invasion force gaining access to Shoreham High Street, are still in working order?

If so, they are wasting their time as the enemy tanks will never get through the never-ending traffic jam that is Shoreham High Street.
