Last autumn, I was alarmed by a dog fight on Hove seafront , neither of the two owners had their dogs on a lead.

My Poodle was petrified. I was reminded of my ordeal when reading about a dog attack in the Argus 13th April.

Last November Brighton & Hove City Council put in place triangle signs weighed down with sand bags - one opposite the rear of the King Alfred another on the promenade opposite 4th Avenue stating “keep dogs on leads”. Since January I have seen numerous dog walkers blatantly ignoring the signs , because locals know the by- laws and rules are not enforced. I am also troubled by cyclists scooting past in the pedestrian only zone. The Local Authority does not escape liability simply by erecting signs. The council needs to police the matter too- after all it’s funny how the council does not leave motorists to police themselves over parking signs!
