It is nice of Sam Maurice to be so concerned about me (Argus Letters, April 22), but I can reassure your readers that I am very pleased by the number of Labour politicians coming to Brighton Pavilion constituency during the election campaign.

The latest ones were Angela Eagle, to launch our LGBT manifesto here, Deputy Leader Harriet Harman for a meeting with local parents and Chris Bryant to launch our arts and culture manifesto.

Among other recent high profile Labour visitors backing my campaign, are veteran NHS campaigner Harry Leslie Smith, Eddie Izzard and Doreen Lawrence, the mother of Stephen Lawrence as well as Justine Miliband (wife of Ed).

But of course, an election campaign is about more than celebrity visits. At its heart are the huge numbers of local people knocking on doors and delivering leaflets day after day.

Many of these local campaigners are not Labour Party members, but people who back me.

They want, among other things, to protect our NHS, see more affordable homes built and a fairer deal for people renting privately, an end to the bedroom tax, zero hours contracts and job insecurity.

And they want to see the UK once again taking a lead internationally in tackling climate change. I thank them for their effort and time. They know that only a Labour government will bring those changes.

That’s why they want a Labour MP for Brighton Pavilion once again.

A solitary Green Party MP cannot achieve those things – no matter how well-meaning she may be.
