It’s great to see Caroline Lucas listening to the city’s writers, dramatists, musicians and artists about our copyright laws.
Copyright ought to protect creators so they receive fair recognition for their work but it is also vital for the public.
I am pleased Caroline got clarity that her party has no plans to reduce copyright to 14 years and is to review copyright policy.
She’s invited local creatives to share their ideas for how copyright law can best support the arts.
Copyright law was intended to protect the creator but I fear it’s not kept pace with the digital age.
I want to make sure it puts the interests of artists above the big corporations who might market their work. It’s good to see Caroline is thinking along the same lines.
