Eric Winters asks (Argus April 28): “Why bother to vote if officers rule the roost?”
In a nutshell officers advise while councillors take decisions. Sometimes councillors disagree with the advice of officers, as was the case recently with the Hannington Estate.
The officers recommended refusal to the plans. The councillors ignored this advice and granted permission for the scheme.
