Now the dust has settled I would like to say how grateful and humbled I feel to have been elected as councillor for North Portslade with my colleague, Penny Gilbey.

It was a very close run thing and my commiserations go out to all the other candidates. The campaign was long and hard, taking in the parliamentary side as well, and I’ve become personally acquainted with every letter box in the ward!

My thanks go to the volunteers who helped with door knocking and leafleting. It may have been a very different result without their help.

I now need to repay the trust shown by those that voted for me and to earn the trust of those that didn’t.

It's a challenge I look forward to.

Peter Atkinson Labour councillor, North Portslade Holden hid identity IF Henry Holden was born in Brighton (which is highly unlikely) and proud of his heritage why, on no less than four separate enlistments into the United States Army, did he solemnly declare to have been born in London?

The question on the enlistment document specifically asks for the town or county of birth so why not say Brighton or Sussex if, indeed, that was the true place of his nativity? Wherever the truth lies, should Brighton honour a man who it seems deliberately chose to conceal his real identity?
