Neil Vowles makes a good observation over the “I’m all right Jack” ethos where council tenants have been able to buy their council-rented home at huge discounts. (The Argus, May 30).

Why should the taxpayer who funded their subsidised rent through council tax accept this give away given the ringfencing on the council budget?

I have less objection to the new proposals to allow some housing association tenants to buy their home after say ten years because many pay higher rents circa 80% market rate.

Many housing association tenants in high rise will not wish to purchase flats or be unable to afford to do so.

The unfairness arises where a third party buys on the tenant’s behalf .
