WHEN I visit Brighton, like Paul Zara, I quicken my step as I walk gingerly through West Street towards the sea, especially at night, and cleaning it up should be a priority.

Before we launch into more visionary schemes, perhaps money could be found to replace the chewed-up tarmac on the south side of Church Road, Hove, with a widened paved footway like that in Western Road.

In the other direction, unless British culture undergoes a facelift too, the overcliff green track between the Marina and Rottingdean would benefit from more places to dispose of the endless rain of trash.
