LIKE the majority of voters in Brighton I voted to remain in Europe and would do the same again if given the chance.

However R P Lambeth (a Brexiteer I believe) made some interesting points in his letter of Monday, December 5.

His assertion that the Treaty of Rome permits tying immigration across EU borders to employment or business is quite astonishing if it is correct.

Indeed if it is, why hasn’t this rule been implemented?

He also reminds us that there is still as much immigration from non-EU countries as from the EU.

The Brexiteers’ point is that “we have border control over non-EU migrants”.

But if so why hasn’t the Government clamped down on this influx?

So presumably all this worry about immigration could be fixed if our Government chose to implement its own policies rather than letting Brexiteers blame the EU.

I have to say that I agree with Mr Lambeth on his point about housing.

And this doesn’t just apply to EU immigrants but to all recent immigrants.

We need massively more council houses for British families and as he says, fruit farmers and other employers should provide (decent) accommodation for seasonal workers from abroad.

His last point was also interesting.

Although I think of myself as European as well as British I think that the arrogant and intransigent attitude of Eurocrats is the reason David Cameron failed so disastrously to obtain a satisfactory deal pre-referendum.

And they are still at it with talk of “no cherry picking” etc.

They want to exact revenge on the Brits for voting out.

It could be that the EU is cutting off its nose to spite its face.

Time will tell but it’s all very sad.
