FORMER Green councillor Christopher Hawtree appears to have had some form of “brain fade” because he seems to have forgotten that it was his own party, the Greens, who removed doorstep recycling collections from most parts of central Brighton and Hove (The Argus, March 31).

He should also be aware that under the Green administration of the council the recycling rate for our city fell to a low of 25 per cent, which was near the bottom of the league table for local councils.

If rubbish bins or communal bins contain so much recyclable material then it is partly the fault of his own party and the failure to give residents the necessary information about the bin collection system in their area.

The council has indeed missed opportunities to reduce the amount of waste and increase the financial gains from recycling which could help support environmental services in our city.
