LAURA Sheppard's letter (letters, October 24) seems to reveal a hatred and anger towards people who cycle more born out of frustration than reality.

Slightly scary is that she thinks that all drivers are law abiding.

Scary because she obviously cannot see all those using mobiles, speeding, jumping red lights, driving on pavements, etc.

I sincerely hope I don’t come across her behind the wheel.

Cycling has been described by many in the medical profession as a magical cure for many of the ills of modern society.

It keeps you fit, makes you feel good and less susceptible to a range of diseases from Alzheimer’s, cancer and diabetes.

It is not just about reducing air pollution as cycling is good for people’s physical and mental well-being.

It actually makes sense to spend money on cycle facilities because it saves society money in the long term.

It's not about rushing to get them in before the advent of electric cars as Ms Sheppard claims.

It's about creating a fairer, healthier society.

After all, electric cars will still get stuck in traffic jams and are a long way off being affordable for many people.
