After celebrating our twins Rhys and Sophie’s tenth birthday on Sunday, we passed the Naked Bike Ride just as it was starting.

We stopped to see what it was like. It was a fantastically positive and festive event. Not sleazy, not rude – just fun.

We are keen cyclists – I did The Argus Brighton to Paris run (which was fantastic) and my son and I are doing the Hove to Hove 60-mile cycle on June 27. So I speak from experience about how vulnerable you can feel on the roads, even when fully clothed and wearing a helmet. If this event increases the awareness of car drivers to cyclists, then count me in for next year.

I feel these brave cyclists should not be arrested but praised. After all, what’s there to shock? OK, the twins were a little amazed and embarrassed but they saw the fun and worth of the event as well.

It was worth stopping just to see their reaction and to support these valiant protesters.

I did the Naked Bike Ride and I thought I’d write to say it was the most fun, friendly, community-spirited event I’ve seen in Brighton this year.

All the way along the route members of the public, young and old, were waving, cheering and laughing – and I didn’t see anyone complain at all.

I even saw one mum raise the attention of her three year old, so they could both have a good laugh together.

Immoral? I don’t think so.

What a lark! Last Sunday found myself and my husband in Brighton town centre for a little shopping, where we were surprised by the whoops and cheers of the nude cyclists as they raced through the streets.

There’s always something to amuse one in Brighton, and this event certainly did that. Great fun.

I cannot understand why so many people tried to ban it – so nice to see a spot of harmless fun in our daily lives.
