I SEE that Ray Gold, chair of governors at Varndean School claims to support democracy and transparency in connection with the controversial bid for Government-backed “academy” status for our school, which he supports (The Argus, March 29).

I hope therefore he can confirm that any final decision on this important subject will be taken only after democratic and transparent ballots by parents, staff and students.

Mr Gold has accused critics of a “gross misrepresentation of the facts” – so let him set the record straight and pledge support for democracy and transparency.

Jon Rogers (Varndean parent) Quebec Street, Brighton Bus solidarity I WOULD like to say a big thank you to bus drivers at the Brighton and Hove Bus Company for their good-natured support for our drivers as we fight for the future of our services to the universities.

It’s heartwarming to see them waving and giving us the thumbs up as we drive by. Some even wear “I Love The Big Lemon” badges on their uniforms.

Thanks very much, and I look forward to seeing you on the road the next time I’m behind the wheel!
