YOU may have seen the national news relating to Southern Cross Care Homes being millions of pounds in debt.
It is making 3,000 staff redundant and selling off some of its properties as it can’t afford the rent on the rest.
Nothing to do with us?
Well you may not be surprised, but two of their homes are in our city, and offer dementia and residential care for the elderly and terminally ill, not to mention the employment they also provide.
We all have parents, family or friends who are ill or elderly and may need this type of care in the not-too-distant future.
I think councils should be making moves to ensure, in this time of dwindling resources, every effort is made to encourage Southern Cross to retain the care currently provided and the jobs that go with it.
