Keep Sussex Skating Association (KSS) thanks Hove MP Mike Weatherley for his valued support for Hove’s King Alfred temporary ice rink proposed by Simon James (The Argus, September 15).

Both men stand firm in their vision for the city of Brighton and Hove.

The temporary three/four-year King Alfred Ice rink is strategic both for KSS and city planning. It will provide skaters, tax payers and visitors with a restored facet of our fine ice-skating heritage – the daily pleasure and exercise of public ice skating.

The timing was also perfect as 2012 has been the year for national sporting prowess to be both marked and celebrated.

The Olympic legacy for more sport requires more purpose-built venues. And in 2014 the Winter Olympic Games are due to put pressure and potential enterprise upon UK ice rinks. The new Hove seafront venue could both enrich our city’s ice sports’ profile and provide revenue.

The good news is that the site next to the Hove Leisure Centre is now available and could feasibly become a permanent King Alfred Ice Rink, allowing training to get moving so as to raise the bar of ice-skating excellence.

By completing the Ice Quest Public Survey – www.kingalfred icerink.co.uk – the public voice will be heard.
