Brighton Pride organisers are rightly basking in glory after announcing that this year’s event has raised almost £65,000 for good causes.

Everyone who attends this brilliant celebration of tolerance and diversity will already know that Pride is synonymous with having a good time.

You can tell this instantly from all the smiling and brightly-decorated partygoers who strut their stuff in Preston Park, along the parade route and at the Village Party.

But organisers have always been keen to stress that the event is much more than a party. It is also an important community event to recognise the progress that has been made and the work that still needs to be done in terms of LGBT rights in this country and further afield.

Even among the fun of the parade this year, the message was loud and clear – don’t forget those who suffer for their sexuality around the globe.

Now with the money raised from this year’s event, hundreds more people in the LGBT community can benefit from fabulous services. What better reason for everyone to party even larger next year.
