IT MIGHT come as little surprise to some that economic growth in Brighton and Hove is outstripping the rest of the country. The city’s economy grew by 5% last year compared to 3% regionally and nationally.
Experts say the city’s creative and qualified work force is a catalyst behind the positive figures and that Brighton and Hove’s productivity has been increasing at a “phenomenal rate” since the 1990s.
It is something we be proud of. From the large corporations to small independent businesses, to councillors and residents, it’s been a team effort up until now.But the city clearly still has its flaws.
There’s a severe need for new housing, with a waiting list exceeding 15,000. We also have an ever-growing problem with homelessness which does not seem to be going away – only sustained.
Despite this, it is important we’re recognised when we do something well.
We are blessed to live in such a diverse and forward-thinking seaside city, graced with an abundance of innovative and individual residents and businesses.
