THE extra £60m funding for the ambitious redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital is good news for Brighton and Hove, Sussex and the south east.

There were concerns the rise in the estimated cost of the scheme from £420 to £480 would throw a spanner in the works and the Government would not approve releasing the money.

But anyone who visits the Royal Sussex knows the case for a new-look hospital for the city is overwhelming and the sooner work gets started, the sooner people will have the 21st century redevelopment they deserve.

The Argus has supported the plans for the Royal Sussex right from the start and it is great to see another hurdle overcome.

Credit should go to all those at the hospital trust who have spent almost six years working hard behind the scenes to reach this point .

Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby has also consistently pushed government departments and ministers to get the project through.

But there is now a huge amount to be done before the project is completed by 2023.
