QUICK-THINKING Elke Haworth is a relieved mother after using her newly acquired first aid skills to stop her young daughter from choking on a gobstopper.
Elke Haworth may not have expected to use what she had learned so quickly but thankfully she kept calm and managed to help her daughter dislodge the sweet.
It’s clear than learning how to carry out first aid or deal with an emergency involving a child is a valuable skill to have and you never know just when you might need it.
Luckily everything turned out well for Elke and her family, but things could have taken a tragic turn if she had not known what to do.
It may be time for parents across Sussex to consider signing up for a St John Ambulance service first aid course themselves.
