BIG names from the world of music have taken to stages across Sussex over the years, from rock stars to classical orchestras.

They don’t come much bigger than The Who, who went on a world tour in 1979 and visited Brighton to play a show as part of the second leg.

Fans queued round the block for tickets to see their idols – see our picture top left.

Were you one of those excited youngsters hoping to bag a ticket for the Brighton Centre gig?

What was your favourite memory of watching or listening to The Who in the late 1970s and early 1980s?

Lead singer Roger Daltrey lives near Burwash – he has owned a trout farm there for more than 30 years.

Also pictured today is Adam Ant, celebrating his birthday during a visit to Brighton in 1992, above.

He Ant shot to stardom as lead singer of new wave group Adam and the Ants and later as a solo artist, scoring ten UK top ten hits from 1980 to 1983.

Do you have a favourite song by Adam Ant during his solo career?

Or did you prefer the days when he was part of Adam and the Ants?

Frankie Goes to Hollywood played a few gigs in Brighton during the 1980s when their hit song Relax, released in 1983, ruled the airwaves.

Our picture above shows their roadies setting up stage for a gig and, to the left of that, is a wonderful shot of the band’s wardrobe – note the high leather boots and military-style jackest.

Do you know where and when that photograph was taken – or maybe you are the girl pictured wearing one of the star’s hats?

Could it have been singer holly Johnson’s? He fronted the band, backed by Paul Rutherford, Peter Gill, Mark O’Toole, and Brian Nash.

In 1985 Frankie Goes To Hollywood won the Brit Award for Best British Single.
