New hope for disused line

Private developers have told campaigners there is still hope of rebuilding a disused railway.

The Kilbride Group said the seven-mile link between Lewes and Uckfield could be restored using contributions from housing developers and others.

It had been hoped that Network Rail would fund a reinstatement of the line but in September it ruled that it would be “economically unviable”.

Kilbride’s managing director David Frost told members of Uckfield Town Council there would be enough funding generated by housing projects already planned in the area to support the project.
