Penalty failure costs Seagulls

Ashley Barnes had a second-half penalty saved as Albion lost away to the Championship leaders.

Kasper Schmeichel got down to his left to block Barnes' 55th-minute spot and secure a 1-0 win for Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

City also owed their sixth win out of six at home to a powerful start to the match.

They piled on early pressure and went ahead when Andy King burst through in the tenth minute.

Albion were more of a threat after the break with Will Buckley involved in their best moments.

The winger was fouled by Zak Whitbread but Barnes saw his penalty saved and then fired the rebound over the bar at full stretch.

There were chances at both ends after that but Barnes drilled the last of them just past the post deep in added time as the Seagulls failed to score for the third successive match.

Don't say I didn't tell you ages ago. If you shine a light on a cockroach it'll go back where it came from, that's what's going to happen to all the Amex crowd if we're not careful..... and they stink

Getting really fed up with Barnes taking penalties it should be Bridge or Bruno and really fed up with Bridcutts powder puff free kicks, really time this was sorted once and or all. Bton only team in whole of championship tonight that failed to score, ays it all.Apparently Kuszak and Barnes having go at each other at end,Kuszak hasnt looked particularly hapy these past few matches, especially as Greer tried to blame him for the deflection.Very dissapointed at the moment.

26,000 paying customers ... and almost as many midfield players who can't seem to get forward and score a goal. Bit surprising considering the type of player Gus was with Spurs and Chelsea. Or is it all down to CMS and Barnes (who can't score from the penalty spot now)? Either the system isn't right or we have the wrong personnel to operate it. I know I will get abused for saying this but Poyet's biggest blunder was not making more of an effort to persuade Glenn Murray to stay. He's had nearly two years now to find a suitable replacement but seems nowhere nearer to solving the riddle. Same old story, Gus? Well that's why you earn the big bucks. About time you came up with a different ending to what is becoming a very tedious script.

Brilliant effort away at the league leaders, but why doesn’t the ball go in .Another 16 shots(12 on target) including a penalty to add to the 16 shots from Saturday and still no goal, Incredible.

I guess Barn Door Barnsey is a successor to Barn Door Billy. As clueless as Gus when it comes to finding a winning formular

Looking at the table/results anyone apart from the bottom three is in with a chance of a top six placing. And I wouldn't rule out them either.

If we were getting Steamrollered by teams then we would have a problem but to get done by the goals we are conceding shows how sometimes it just isn't going to happen.Look at the other results its going to be a strange looking top 6 if things continue as they are.

A few weeks ago I berated JM for his comments about poor ratios.. Now I will eat my words because the last few matches have been dire to listen to.. all that possession but no end result.

Hopefully NOW Gus will get the striker he said he would yesterday, whether it was a threat to get people to perform or not we need to start scoring again or at least get shots on target. No use dominating for long periods if you cant convert that into goals!

Listening to the radio commentary you would have thought Brighton were unlucky but 2 shots on target says it all really (and one of those must have been the penalty). Don't think it's the attack that's the problem, it's the midfield. No sign of any support arriving from deep for CMS. How many times do we hear the commentator say the ball is played up to CMS, who is on his own. No threat from corners or free kicks either. Nor crosses - CMS needs it on the floor. However still time, a decent run (and I don't think we are far off a good team) will put us right back up there again - look at Reading last year.

We have one of the highest gates in the championship, with top premiership prices, I accept we should not break the bank on players wages, but unfortunately we also do not have a forward line that strikes fear in the oposition, We let Noone go and replace him with a guy with half the skill and ability, of the players brought in this season only bridge and Bruno have been consistent, Gus we are going backwards with the exception that we may well go on losing 1-0 instead of getting 6 thumped past us, so in some way that is progress, but we have to bring in someone who can turn us into a winning team, also someone who can play a season without being crocked for two thirds of it,

Well now I am begining to lose patience. All the hype earlier on about great players and 'he's going to be a great player' well how long do you give someone. I hope Bloom is going to have a word in Gus's shell-like and tell him its not good enough and we want some results and soon. The back line players appear to be good but from there on the results prove that at present they are not up to it. there will be 'trouble in camp' before long if things do not improve and we are now starting to lose touch.

Yes, without a doubt. When we lose the wonderfully self abusing come out in force to tell us all how bad it is, and all the dire things that will happen but never a sign when we win. Idiots all.

Absolutely. Albion go to the league leaders, are unlucky to come away without a point, and all the muppets come out of the woodwork. What a sad bunch they are.
The number of trolls seems to increase exponentially after a loss.
I still think the Albion will be in the mix for promotion at the end of the season.

I didn't think we we too bad last night. No denying Leicester are a good team and caused us plenty o problems but on another day we could have got a very good point at the league leaders.

As someone pointed out above, our delivery from free kicks and corners was awful. I lost count of the amount of times we played it short and gave the ball away. Surely this is something that can rectified in training?

Still think we will come good, promotion may be a bit far this year but I think we will win more than we lose and I for one will be happy with that...

Even the Peter Ward team went three games without scoring all defeats. And in their Division 3 promotion team they also went six away games on the trot without scoring as teams parked the bus.

We could use a clinical finisher like Peter Ward and a goalscoring midfielder like Brian Horton.

I don't know about the goalscorer but Vicente could fit the bill for number two. For number one I would put Barnes upfront and relieve him of his defensive duties (except for opposing corners). I would play Macca deeper as a pick up and run player, although a Gerrard style would be better.

System needs tweaking. This is a test for Gus. Barnes should not have taken the penalty. He was outwitted. Macca should not have taken it either. Better Barnes out of the two of them.

What are defenders for if they cannot defend. Charlie Austin does not defend so deep. His job is to score goals.

I could see the warning signs of poor finishing against Barnsley.

PS: the Ipswich match was a bit boring. I could sense it in the crowd. My seat was expensive for where it was. I could sense the crowd getting bored. That was more than the contest being boring. It was sort of catching.

But most of all it is the trains for evening matches. I don't mind going home crowded, but before the game it was horrendous from Shoreham, suffocating. . Worse than going home.

This discontent has been caused by those who after a good start to the season started a Premiership place next season line, others without considering this fantasy tale have built up pressure on the chairman, manager and of course the players.
It being our first time in the Championship a mid table finish would be quite satisfactory particularly if we improve our home record.
