Leg-spinner Will Beer has ended the uncertainty around his future by signing a new contract at Sussex.

The 24-year-old was out of contract at the end of last season but has agreed a deal which will keep him at Hove until 2014.

Beer was a regular in Sussex's Twenty20 side last season and also featured in seven CB40 matches but has made only two Championship appearances in the last four years.

Coach Mark Robinson said: "Will has steadily improved year upon year and it is great from a club perspective that he has signed a new contract. Hopefully this will allow him to develop further and develop into the complete player we think he can be."

Beer added: “I have grown up playing my cricket with Sussex and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and hopefully contributing towards winning trophies for this club."

Would like to see him working in tandem with Monty in the Championship a bit, it might bring him on a lot more.

Agree with you, Yogi. Particularly as Will has proven himself as a tail-order batsman with the temperament and ability to add valuable runs.

In the 4-day game Will would be able to experiment with a wider range of variations during a bowling spell than it is possible to do in t20.

Would echo the comments above. Will is a great asset for his fielding too, which bodes well in the T20 version.

The 4 day game would certainly help him develop his consistency however and variations.
