Two men off as Reds are held at home
Crawley had to settle for a point against Oldham in a game which saw both sides reduced to ten men.
Oldham defender Jean-Yves M'Voto was dismissed after just 19 minutes after pushing both Kyle McFadzean and Gary Alexander in the face.
Reds were unable to make the extra man count and were themselves reduced to ten in the 62nd minute when Hope Akpan saw red for a reckless challenge on Robbie Simpson.
The visitors took the lead five minutes later when a shot from Jose Baxter was deflected into the top corner but McFadzean rescued a point for Reds with a 25 yard effort 11 minutes from time.
Oldham started well and forced a series of corners before M'Voto handed the initiative to Reds by getting himself sent off in the 19th minute.
The Oldham defender and Kyle McFadzean had clashed on the area as they waited for a corner to be delivered. The referee stopped the game to have a word but before he could M'Voto pushed McFadzean and then Gary Alexander to the ground.
McFadzean was shown a yellow card but referee Gavin Ward had little option but to send M'Voto off.
Oldham reorganised by taking off winger Cristian Montano and bringing on defender James Tarkowski. Jose Baxter dropped from attack to midfield as the Latics switched from 4-4-2 to 4-4-1.
Crawley dominated possession as a result but found it difficult to break the visitors down. The closest they came to breaking the deadlock in the first half was when Nicky Adams had a shot blocked on the line from a short corner and McFadzean blazed the loose ball over.
Reds upped the tempo slightly at the start of the second half with Akpan firing just wide from 30 yards and then Billy Clarke had a shot deflected inches past the upright.
Crawley's hopes of increasing the pressure suffered a setback when Akpan received his fourth red card in Crawley colours in the 62nd minute. Akpan gave possession away and dived in recklessly on Simpson as it became ten versus ten again.
Things became worse for the home side five minutes later when Oldham took the lead. Lee Croft found Baxter with a low cross and his shot was deflected into the top corner off a defender.
The visitors had a chance to double their lead in the 72nd minute when Matt Derbyshire pounced on a defensive mistake but Paul Jones did well to turn his shot around a post.
Reds boss Richie Barker brought on Jonathan Forte and Nicky Ajose in a bid to get back into the game and it worked as they equalised in the 79th minute.
Josh Simpson forced Dean Bouzanis into a good low save with a shot from the edge of the area but from the resulting corner McFadzean fired home a stunning effort from 25 yards.
Crawley pushed for a winner and should have had it when a corner from Adams was headed back across goal by McFadzean only for Gary Alexander to mis-kick his shot wide from six yards.
