Albion prospect joins Chesterfield
4:13pm Thursday 8th November 2012 in Sport By Andy Naylor
Ben Dickenson, Chesterfield-bound
Albion teenager Ben Dickenson has agreed a one-month loan move to Chesterfield and Matt Sparrow is a target for his former club Scunthorpe United.
The Seagulls have responded to widespread interest in Dickenson from clubs in the lower divisions by allowing him to link up with the Spireites after the 19-year-old former Dorchester striker made his comeback from ankle truble in the development squad on Monday night.
Out-of-favour midfielder Sparrow, 29, had 11 years at Scunthorpe before signing for the Seagulls in 2010.
Brian Laws, back at Scunthorpe as manager, said: "It's the very early stages. I've spoken to Gus Poyet on a couple of occasions. Again, I've thrown my begging hat in and hoping we get something from it."

Good for Ben together some experience, and great to get matt off the payroll .. Although the Albion will probably pay 50% of wages..

Still work to be done though, the food and bar areas are shockingly poor service, club are losing out on profit by people not bothering to even try and get a drink or food...

We have a smallish squad with an average pay structure as GM's departure to Palace will confirm. MBS, losses are based on fact or supposition ?

We all know that the ground and improvements have cost around 110 million but we have healthy revenue and are servicing an interest free loan
Spend on players and sales have more or less wiped their faces so i am intrigued to know where this huge amount comes from (If true)
Can anyone throw some light on this?

Not sure who thinks that we have not spent a fortune bringing in players? For instance on a lower level, tommy ELphick received 90k as a signing on fee... I would imagine the club have covered moving fees for bridge, Hammond etc.. Plus.

Does that include loan repayments or just operating costs?

Surely a persons wages are a private matter between them and the Company they work for. I would love to know how people know 'for a fact' how much certain players earn. Also, Mark how come you seem to know so much about the Albion finances. If you are employed by them, you must be in a very privilaged position to have all this information at your fingertips, if you are not in their employment then surely it must be guesswork on your part.
Cms turned down 25k a week.. And decided to join us after talking to Sven .good players earn very good money. Top players earn silly money. That's common knowledge.. But without anyone saying.

So keeping on topic, I wish the lad good luck but I wonder why the loan is only for a month.
Good luck to Sparrow too, maybe a sale can be agreed come january.
We probaly have two or three other development squad players that could go out on loan but I guess it's too late now.. . .

If we really are in a parlours financial position, then why I we happy to make do and not invest in the playing staff? Remember the ultimate prize is even more financially rewarding and could go a huge way to repaying TB. This is a very well run club and business with I'm certain a very robust plan for the next five years, the Premiership is coming we just need to be patient and do it right.

Today's Argus has him giving the team the kiss of death once again just because of his own fears - just the same old drivel when he said the same thing last season when we were still in the play off positions.
Gus, part of your job is to IMPROVE the players under your charge who YOU bought! I can't believe how easily some people are conned by the BS! This media love him as they just have to put on their recorders, ask him innocuous meaningless questions and let him spout.
Once again the team and our chances of promotion have been killed by his impetuous comments today.
To those who say he's trying to motivate the players to prove him wrong don't understand if you want to motivate you don't make comments like that publicly. When you do - there's only one purpose - cover your backside - FEAR! The same fear that stops him playing 2 upfront at home week after week.

Some either love Barnes or think he's useless. Some love Dobbie or think he's useless. Some love Bruno, others think he makes too many mistakes. Even CMS has his detractorsbecause his first touch isn't always that good. Bridcutt and Greer often get rave reviews...but some people think their passing is poor/negative.
It's a game of opinions. We all have different views.
Me.. I think all the above have a contribution to make. None of them are useless. Yes CMS's control sometimes lets him down, but hey! not many defenders can cope with him when he is flying and his work-rate is second to none. Barnes does fall over a lot, and his passing and control is sometimes faulty, but he does a lot of good things, works hard, links well with other players and is capable of scoring some vital goals. Dobbie initially lacked pace, but is getting fitter and faster, and his quality is great:- Good feet and a fantastic shot. Greer is good defensively, has good positional sense, but moans a lot at others when it's him who has made a mistake, and his passing out of defence is often negative and often puts his own team mates under pressure. Bridcutt is great defensively, has good control and awareness, but his passing and creativity (vision) needs to improve.
etc etc
I think Gus is well aware of these things. Perhaps he does have his favourites (Barnes?) but what messageboarder doesn't also have favourites?
As for the club's debt. I would rather be where we are now than where we were 10 games from the end of season 2008-09, (and going further back, 1997)!!!
For those of you who have forgotten a certain striker, Lloyd Owusu was signed on loan from Cheltenham by Russell Slade in 2009 and hit 7 vital goals to help us turn a dire position (9 points from safety) to a last day of the season escape from Div 2. If we had lost that last game against Stockport, it would have been us relegated and not Northampton.
Tony Bloom loves this club too much to start economising now, especially when the club is so close to the top level. He loves to speculate to accumulate, and I'm sure he will continue to do so. Obviously he will be hoping we can recruit and develop some young talent like Saints have done over the years (Walcott, Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc).
Less of the scare-mongering Mark-by-the-sea, and more positive thinking!
