Poyet unhappy after draw
6:20pm Saturday 10th November 2012 in Sport By Brian Owen
Gus looks thoughtful at Wolves (photo Simon Dack)
Gus Poyet admitted Albion threw away a great chance to grab an away win at Wolves today.
The Seagulls played more than half the match against ten men but were pegged back to a 3-3 draw when Roger Johnson scored for the hosts in injury time.
An angry Poyet said: “I’m disappointed. As a group, we let too many people down today.
“It was not my team on the pitch.
“We don’t play for 3-3s, 4-4s, 5-5s. First we need to do the basics.
“It’s always someone, it’s always “because”, but it’s not good enough."
Poyet was unhappy with how his side failed to make the most of their one-man advantage after Karl Henry was dismissed when the score was 1-1.
He added: “We didn’t use it the right way. We didn’t know as a team how to play.
“We didn’t know how to take advantage.
“We didn’t know how to maintain that scoresheet for long periods and to go 3-1 up, 4-1 up.
“There is no one to blame apart from ourselves.
“There are basics in football and you need to be aware. Unfortunately we didn’t do it. It’s a bad day.”

Don't you just love it when a 3-3 draw away at a side just relegated from the Premiership stimulates disappointment? It sounds as if this was 2 points dropped but it's yet another game where we played our opponents off the park.

Good to see us scoring again though and although we have conceded three it is the first time.
We are still building this team and, personally, I prefer Gus to be frank and honest in his explanations rather than telling us fans what we think we want to hear.
Not sure whether KLL would have made much of a difference. Not his fault but we seem to play the ball to his feet nowadays and I think this causes him to struggle. Two seasons ago, we'd knock it 10-15 yards ahead of him and he'd use his pace to win the ball and beat defenders. Not sure playing to his feet makes the best use of his pace.

We've come a long way under Gus and we still have a long way to go. Did any of the moaners listen to Gus' Radio interview this week?
Perhaps all you moaners would like Adkins as the next manager-I mean he's doing so well isn't he?
The Club IS moving forward and I for one would prefer slow, steady progress unlike Southampton who will be with us again next season.
I believe Gus will get us in the Prem but it may take 2-3years.
We really missed El-Abd today and if anything we didn't have someone with the nous to direct and take the team forward in the right way against ten men.
The REAL fans are with you Gus-as for the rest-go and support Crawley!!!

We came from behind twice and shows something. Ok maybe we didn't defend well but we got back in to the game. The fact that three different people got their names on the score sheet for us great, it shows that more than just CMS can do it.
People seem to think that just because your opposition goes down to ten men they become cannon fodder but so many teams have proven that not to be right. Ten men often develope a resolve that might not be there when eleven are on the field.
As the manager of our club I support Gus but today I think his comments a tad harsh and he offers very little, in fact nothing, as a compliment to Wolves for what they managed to accomplish today. . .

I do like Gus....he is passionate and a bad loser...which in a way is good-because it shows he cares and wants us to get to the top, but he needs to take life more calmly because you can't win every game.
A worrying aspect of our play this season is that we don't seem to be able to hold onto leads for very long. We dominate...and if we go ahead we then try and hold onto what we've got and instead of making sure our opponents can't get the ball we resort giving the ball away far too cheaply .
Gus needs to change our mindset when we go infront.

Today the chances were made but simple chances missed. Also I believe tactical error at the end for that last corner when there were three were left up front. Not enough bodies to put anybody on then posts – result 3 -3.
Lopez very disappointing, Bruno has forgotten how to defend. As usual there was great support from away end.
As Gus said we will never have a better chance to win an away match this season.

Wolves are not the side that was relegated last season, they have many new players, as well as a new manager and backroom staff, so are a different proposition completely.
Remember that home match with Burnley last season? We were down to 9 men after two red cards, and yet played some amazing stuff to keep the score to just a 0-1 loss. In fact an equaliser looked on the cards at the death as well, so a depleted team is not an automatically defeated team as some on here suggest.
It's good to read the decent comments.

We are playing so much better away from home than we did last season. It doesn't bear comparison. We played some lovely football today. The first goal came completely against the run of play after we had dominated possession. The front 5 all looked comfortable on the ball and the one touch interplay between them was a joy to watch. If there is a negative then at times we looked a bit like Arsenal and seemed to be passing the ball to each other for the sake of it - just need to remember to stick it in the goal thing occasionally boys.
We are creating so many more chances than last season - on another day we'd have won that game by a mile. The style of our play is absolutely what I pay my money to watch.
Bridcutt was majestic again in front of the back four and dominates the pitch between them and the halfway line. The negative? - once he ventures over the halfway line he looks less than ordinary. A fish out of water. Regularly been giving the ball away in the opposition half in recent weeks and did it in howler style yesterday for their 2nd goal.
Greer seems to at last have been told to stop hitting the 40 yard cross field pass and was vastly improved on recent weeks.
Bruno was a delight when he pushed into the playmaker role for the last 20 minutes or so - although would be interesting to see if he'd be so composed and masterful with 11 players on the pitch for the opposition.
All in all a terrific match, and came away (as against Leeds) very pleased with 95% of the performance and disappointed with the result. Just occasionally we get a little sloppy (over-confident?) and are made to pay for it.
But the improvement is evident to anyone who watches regularly. We are on the upward curve and I have no doubt that we'll reach the promised land. Not convinced that it will, or should be, this year but we'll get there.
We need to be more clinical and then we'd be out of sight before our occasional sloppy error mattered. That was certainly true yesterday.
We still haven't beaten any of the teams that fancy themselves for a shot at promotion which is why I don't think we'll make it this season.
But we'll make it. Provided Gus stays.

Unfortunately we haven't been consistent so far. There is no clear pattern. Sometimes we find scoring easy - sometimes we don't. For the first dozen games we barely conceeded a goal and now we seem vulnerable. I have faith that it will all come together soon. We are still in a good position. Buckley's goal was class.

Obviously one is disappointed that we didn't get all three points but it is reassuring to see the Albion scoring goals again.
One thought is that once Bridge had been substituted after 35 minutes we only had 2 (Bruno and Greer) of our normal back four on the pitch. I wondered if that 'unfamiliarity' in any way contributed to our defensive fraility ? Any comments ? Correct me if I am wrong but I read that the cross/free kick from which Johnson equalised came from our left flank.

When Gus says it isn't his team, he means it isnt his team playing the way he has told them to play. There s only so much a manager can do. After that you have to rely on the players on the pitch making the right decisions.
We have so much to thank GP and TB for. Just look at the match day experience - the new academy set up - AIC. The quality of the matches we are seeing is a million times better than it was. Perhaps those of us who supported the club at Gillingham and the Withdean have a better perspective on it all ?

If you agree witht eh above, and if you look at where we are in the table, why the heck are some of you banging on about our team and management performances.
We are having a decent year so far and it can, and will, get better. .

a,and most of the development squad who never feature in the first team but go out on loan.without the club able to buy quality we are going nowhere this season.i dont thnk the club want to go up yet.buy the players reqd, pay them what theyre worth.get promotion, and spend the 50million prize on 5, 10millionpound players and stay up like west ham look likely to do.the gate receipts are good.why stifle ambitions?

Similarly, on Saturday, we missed two good chances at the start of the second half. Had we taken them, we would be out of sight – game over. In every department except finishing, we outplayed Wolves. And we deservedly went 3-2 up with only added time left to play. Gus is understandably frustrated that we didn’t see the game out. We all are. But as many realistic fans have already pointed-out, this was a good performance against a would-be Premiership side. We are improving. We’ve come a long way in the last three years. There’s still more than a little way to go yet. Enjoy the journey – I am.

if these players didnt make mistakes they would be playing in the p,ship not the c.ship.what weve ended up with is alot of other clubs discards in the transfer window.with the exception of wayne bridge, bruno seems to lack concentration when defending.when poyet said last week were not good enough to go up,i disagree.we are with one or two additions.ie a glenn murray or similar striker.needs to get rid of alot of deadwood and start the rebuilding process again.lop
