Wayne Bridge will be missing for the first time this season as Albion kick-off at Huddersfield.
The former England left-back, who went off at Wolves last Saturday with a calf injury, is replaced by Marcos Painter in defence.
Albion also suffered a blow in the warm-up when goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak damaged a finger.
Peter Brezovan, initially promoted to the bench today, will start.
It is one of five changes to the side which kicked off at Molineux.
Dean Hammond, Will Buckley and Ashley Barnes all return to the XI in place of Andrew Crofts, David and Stephen Dobbie.
Adam El-Abd does not make his comeback from a hamstring injury. Lewis Dunk continues in central defence.
Huddersfield have also suffered an injury setback.
Jermaine Beckford is ruled out but the Terriers have a ready-made replacement in four-goal top scorer Lee Novak, who partners home debutant Simon Church.
Danny Ward, scorer of Town’s winner at Withdean last April, returns on the left wing.
