5:22pm

Poyet seemed happy enough afterwards. Reaction from the boss to come elsewhere on this website. Join us again next time.

4:56pm

4:55pm

Both sides being clapped off by their fans. It was a good game.

4:54pm

Full-time

4:54pm

Calderon charged forward to win a corner - which led to another. But that one was held by Hamer. Play swung to the other end and Greer crucially beat Hulse in the air right in front of goal.

4:52pm

Albion were committing men forward in search of a winner as the game moved into a minimum of four added minutes.

4:51pm

Bridge showed good technique in the 90th minute to volley a bouncing ball goalwards from distance but Hamer held it easily enough.

4:50pm

Morrison stayed forward after a free-kick came to nothing for Charlton. When Pritchard retrieved ball wide on the right and crossed, the big defender was on the end of it. But Albion fans at the far end breathed a sigh of relief as his header went straight to Kuszczak.

4:47pm

LuaLua had another chance to go for goal from a free-kick, this time 25 yards out and to the left of goal, but his shot was blocked and cleared.

4:46pm

Both teams had produced their best spells of the game immediately after conceding goals so we awaited a final twist on what was now a cold evening at The Valley

4:41pm

Mackail-Smith headed a tough chance over at the near post after Buckley had turned Solly inside out and whipped in a cross.

4:39pm

4:37pm

As LuaLua performed his celebratory somersaults, Bruno limped to the bench. The right-back was replaced by Calderon before play resumed.

4:36pm

The deficit did not last long. Barnes was felled just outside the box and LUALUA rifled in a free-kick which found the net with the help of a big deflection.

4:33pm

Charlton regained the lead in the 70th minute as Jackson's low cross from the left somehow fell to PRITCHARD, whose shot rolled beyond Kuszczak's left hand.

4:31pm

LuaLua had been warming up and he was sent on to take the free-kick in place of Hoskins. The sub's drive deflected into the path of Mackail-Smith near the penalty spot but his shot was diverted behind by a superb intervention from Wilson.

4:29pm

Then Hoskins broke up a Charlton attack to beat Wilson to a loose pass and breaking to within five yards of the home area, where Wilson brought him down at the expense of a yellow card.

4:27pm

The contest was in the balance now. Stephens let fly from outside the box for Charlton with a well struck shot which reared up off the pitch right in front of Kuszczak, who did well to hold it.

4:25pm

4:25pm

Buckley looked very disappointed with himself in the 62nd minute after shooting past the top corner from 20 yards after Hoskins had done well to poke the ball away from a defender and into his path. Before play could resume, Barnes went on as sub for Dobbie.

4:22pm

4:21pm

Then Albion threatened as they got Buckley down the left to fire in a knee-high cross which Dobbie, at the near post, could only divert over at full stretch.

4:18pm

Hulse worked himself room on the left edge of the area and fired in a cross shot from a narrow angle which might have flown just inside the far post had Kuszczak not dived to his right to paw it away.

4:16pm

Both sets of supporters were now in great voice.

4:16pm

4:15pm

4:14pm

Albion sprung to attacking life through the right-sided combination of Bruno and Buckley and it almost brought them a 52nd-minute lead. The full-back's clever passes released Buckley to first win a corner and then, when that was worked short, to fire in a goalbound shot which was blocked by the diving Hamer in a packed goalmouth.

4:12pm

In response to that comment, internet connection is VERY in and out here so that might be a factor in any mis-communication.

BBC coverage beggars belief--gives score as 1-0 but CMS has scored BHA goal. Hope we can go on and win--get some chances that we can convert. Got the team many wanted now lets see them deliver the goods!!

4:11pm

The Seagulls had not threatened since drawing level and that continued in the opening minutes of the second half.

4:09pm

Albion's followers in the old Jimmy Seed Stand had a long-distance view of the opening exchanges as their side had to clear a couple of crosses.

4:08pm

Both teams were attacking the goal behind which they had fans cheering them on in the second half.

4:06pm

Second half now in progress

3:50pm

Charlton goal scorer now confirmed as Lawrie Wilson

3:48pm

Half-time

3:48pm

The last few minutes of the half were quiet.

3:39pm

3:39pm

Haynes was playing deeper than expected but he had a chance in the 35th minute, shooting into the side-netting at the near post after Albion had played themselves into trouble near their left corner flag.

3:35pm

3:34pm

3:33pm

That combination of lively attacking and dubious defending helped Albion draw level in the 28th minute. An error by recalled centre-back Morrison let in MACKAIL-SMITH outside the box and he produced a good first touch to work the ball on to his right foot before thumping a low drive past Hamer.

3:30pm

Both teams were looking good going forward - and less than watertight at the back.

3:29pm

3:28pm

Ownership of the Charlton goal will no doubt be clarified when we see replays.

3:27pm

3:26pm

Albion were playing some nice football now. But they had to be alert at the back to block a Pritchard shot after attacking full-back Solly overlapped and put in a dangerous low cross.

3:25pm

3:23pm

The visitors had responded well and fashioned a super chance - again not taken - in the 18th minute. This time Hoskins threaded a clever pass through the back line and into the path of Dobbie, who was through on goal but saw his shot blocked by Hamer as the in-form keeper came out quickly.

3:20pm

The ball was played in low after a corner, Mackail-Smith challenged and it eventually broke to Greer, who fired over from six yards.

3:18pm

Jackson saw a free-kick deflect off the wall for a corner which Albion struggled to clear. But when they did it led to an attack which should have brought them level.

3:16pm

Albion were rocked and Kuszczak had to tip over Hulse's looping header soon after.

3:15pm

Charlton ramped the celebrations up a level by scoring in the ninth minute - but it was a soft goal to concede. Stephens curled in a cross from a corner taken short on the Charlton left and WILSON seemed to get a touch to guide it gently home beneath the gaze of the Albion fans.

3:12pm

The home supporters then had action on the pitch to clap as a neat move led to right-back Wilson curling in a cross which El-Abd cleared.

3:10pm

As planned, Charlton fans broke into applause at 3.07pm - which was actually the sixth minute of the game.

3:07pm

Albion got into the home penalty area in the first few seconds and their fans at the far end shouted hopefully for a penalty as Hoskins went down contesting a high ball. But, if anything, the Albion man was doing the pushing and play was waved on as the ball was cleared.

Buckley had started game wide on the left with Hoskins to the right and Dobbie just off the central Mackail-Smith. But it appeared the attacking players had licence to swap positions.

3:03pm

Albion defending the packed away end in the first half.

3:02pm

Match is now in progress.

2:59pm

2:58pm

Charlton are on a good run but, looking back at the highlights, were very fortunate not to fall behind in their last home game – verus Peterborough – before going on to win 2-0. Ricardo Fuller made the breakthrough that night with a great strike from long range but pulled his hamstring as he did so. Fuller is one of four Charlton strikers who have three goals so far this season. Rob Hulse, Yann Kermorgant and Danny Haynes have also netted three apiece.  Hulse and Haynes start today.

2:54pm

Full line-ups and team news have been posted elsewhere on this site.

2:53pm

Some interesting team news today. Albion's steely defence of the opening weeks of the season is at last re-united while Hoskins, Dobbie and Mackail-Smith all start.

2:50pm

For younger readers: Charlton were in financial difficulty in the 1980s and had to leave their home ground in September 1985. They hosted matches at Selhurst Park and, for a season and a bit, across the river at Upton Park, while supporters campaigned long and hard to get them back home. They played their first match back here on December 5, 1992, although, apart from the away end, the stadium did not look much like it does today. Charlton beat Portsmouth 1-0 that day with Colin Walsh scoring in the seventh minute. Home fans will mark that goal with applause at 3.07pm this afternoon.

2:49pm

Charlton celebrate the 20th anniversary of their return home today.

2:49pm

It’s celebration time at Charlton today. But Albion could do with a bit of cheer of their own after their troubles in this part of the world seven days ago. A week on from defeat at Crystal Palace, the Seagulls come just a little further north east to play the Addicks as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of their return to The Valley.

Thanks for the reply ref; BBC on line commentary--but it gets worse---after half time we go back to commentary around 8mins into play then back to current play---the company providing this service to the BBC should get its act together!!!

I think it's great that we started with such an attacking line up today but I wonder why we chose to do this away from home rather than at the Amex.

Well-- following the game on-line it appeared to be a real belter and perhaps one of Albions best performances?? Those at the game will no doubt put us in the picture. Is this the Team that Gus needs to find to lead us on?? Good that Lua Lua appears to have had a good game and Hoskins?? Still too many missed opportunities in front of goal by the number of missed shots. But no doubt very encouraging.
