Shopping centre alterations and other events from south Durham

SHOPPING CHANGES: The Newgate Centre in Bishop Auckland has been given planning permission by Durham County Council to install a new glazed door system at its Newgate Street entrance and to remove an existing seating area while raising the street level to create a pedestrian platform.

PIPERS CEILIDH: The Bishop Auckland and District Pipes and Drums will lead a ceilidh dance at Bishop Auckland Masonic Hall at 7pm on Saturday, February 23. For more information or tickets contact John Atkinson-Millmoor on 07903-209759 or visit baadpad.co.uk.

MUSIC HALL: Jack Drum Arts will host a Music Hall Magic concert featuring young people from across the Durham Dales as well as professional artists at St Cuthbert’s Centre in Crook at 3pm and 6pm on Saturday, December 29. Tickets cost £4 for adults, £3 for students and children or £10 for a family on the door.

CHRISTMAS COMMUNION: Residents and visitors are invited to join in a Communion service for families at 10am on Christmas Day in the Churches Together Centre at Hamsterley Methodist Chapel. A family Christmas party is to be held in the same venue at 3pm on Saturday, December 29.

JUMBLE NEEDED: Toys, clothes, ornaments, shoes, bric a brac and books are being sought for a jumble sale being held at Willington Community Action Centre on Saturday, February 2. The jumble sale and coffee morning will raise funds for the centre on High Street. Donations can be left at the centre, for more information call Lisa Metcalf on 01388-742000.

COFFEE CLASSIC: Visitors to Bishop Auckland Town Hall can enjoy a coffee and a screening of the West Side Story at 1pm on Thursday, January 10. The coffee classic club will meet every Thursday afternoon at the hall with tickets costing £5, including refreshments.

PARTNERSHIP MEETING: The Bishop Auckland and Shildon Area Action Partnership board will meet at the Wear Valley Christian Centre in Bishop Auckland at 6pm on Thursday, January 22. Register attendance by calling Emma Walton on 01388-761569.
